Daddy, am I pretty?
"Daddy, daddy look at me!"
She laughed and turned around
Dressed up in her dress-up clothes.
Daddy didn't make a sound.
"Daddy, daddy look at me."
She told him once again.
"Daddy, am I pretty?"
Said she, feeling empty within.
"Yes." said daddy flatly
Though look he never did.
She ripped off all the clothes,
Ran to her room and hid.
Daddy never came
To ever see if she was fine.
In her floor she laid.
All she could do was cry.
Daddy didn't love her;
She knew that in her heart.
It's not right for a five year old
To feel broken, torn apart.
Although too many years have passed
The story's still the same.
I called only when I needed him
But daddy never came.
Now my dreams are haunted
With that broken little girl
And her horrid misconception of
The best daddy in the world.
I am so sorry you never got to experience that same devotion and love from your father... Some people can truly be heartless sometimes. I can only wish you well in moving on, and of course, there's always the sweet feeling you'll get when he asks you for something to help him out, and you can ask him exactly that very question... why he never helped you out. Make that worm squirm.
Great emotional poetry and certainly inspiring for any would-be poet who wishes to write in that field. Keep up the good work.
“Never explain anything.” - H.P. Lovecraft
I like the quote. Ive never heard it before.
An alternate for this situation could have been the quote below, but I like the brevity of the former
"Never explain - your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway." -Elbert Hubbard
I also found your use of a rhyming schematic to be very well used.
Thanks a bunch and also thanks for commenting. ^_^ *Hugs you*
